How do I add grandparents to a photo?
- Pick the family photo you want, the one with the parents and children in it.
- Add one to three photos of the first grandparent, and say where they stand or sit.
- Download that picture. Use it as your family photo, then add the second grandparent.
- Prefer to start from scratch? Use "Make a new family portrait" with one photo of each person.
Which way fits your family?
If you already have a good family photo, add the grandparents to it, one run each. Everyone in it stays exactly as they are.
If you have no family photo at all, or someone is missing from every one, the portrait option puts separate photos together in a new picture. It works for a relative who has died just as well as for one who lives far away.
Photo tips
- For the person you are adding, pick a photo where their face is clear and well lit. Looking toward the camera works best.
- Two or three photos of them from different days help the picture look more like them.
- Old, faded or black-and-white photos are fine. The finished picture is in colour to match your family photo.
- For the family photo, leave a little room where they would naturally stand or sit.

Can I add a grandparent who has passed away?
Yes. Use clear photos of them and tell us where they should be. They appear at the age they are in your photos.
What if the grandparents were never in the same photo?
That is fine. Add each one from their own photos, or use the portrait option with one photo of each.
What if I want the grandparents standing together?
Add the first, download that picture, then add the second to it. Say in the note where each should stand, for example "on the left, next to Mom".
